Impact of composition and salinity on swelling and gel strength of poly (acrylamide-co-acrylic acid) preformed particle gel

Abstract The effects of various material compositions and reservoir environments on the ultimate strength swelling kinetics a commercial preformed particle gel (PPG) have been investigated. This study used different ratios acrylamide acrylic acid copolymers with specific crosslinker concentration. Results indicated that increasing proportion enhances PPGs’ ability to swell but weakens their network structure. In contrast, content decreases ratio increases strength. highest equilibrium capacity among six samples was obtained for PPG2, which has amount lowest content, 2400 g/g in deionized water 59.8 brine 1 (67535.8 mg/l). On contrary, PPG5, 239 more than 17 distilled 1, respectively. Yet, PPG5 swollen 615.5 Pa 3344 1. showed stepwise improvements along temperature, notably after 50 °C, yet, storage modulus (G′) negatively affected. PPGs revealed behavior pH 6–8, decreasing dramatically acidic basic conditions. at °C were between 12 32 g/g, having strengths range 566–5508 Pa, depending ratio. also demonstrated compete other as they shown physical thermal stability when aging specifically those high (PPG5).
